Please note that the ball court area will be closed for essential work from Wednesday 31 July to Thursday 1 August 2024. Planning Update

We wanted to update you on some minor changes required to the planning permission for the Eastern Base.

During the consultation process concerns were raised about the possible inclusion of a rapid response unit and this was subsequently removed from the proposals. Following a detailed review, an alternative use for this space was identified, comprising of a space for safety and fitness training of officers. We have therefore submitted a Section 73 application for the variation of planning permission to cover the necessary minor design changes required.

Gravel Lane Early Works

Please see below a letter sent to residents above the Gravel Lane shops on 7 May 2024 informing them about some investigative works taking place in the basement of 16 Gravel Lane in mid-late May 2024.

Advance Notice of Works: Podium Investigation Works

Contractors will be working at various sites on the podium during the week commencing 22 April 2024. This will include carefully lifting and setting aside paving slabs and sand bedding to expose the waterproofing for inspection. Areas will be cordoned off and made good after the inspection has taken place.

RESIDENT WORKSHOPS, FRIDAY 26 APRIL 2024

We are running two separate workshops to hear residents’ thoughts on aspects of the podium which is being refurbished as part of the City of London Police’s Eastern Base project at Middlesex Street Estate.

CONTRACTOR ON SITE: CAR PARK RAMP, THURSDAY 4 APRIL 2024

Contractors will be working on the exit ramp of the basement car park on Thursday 4 April between 9-10.30am. This investigative work includes drilling a small hole to ascertain the thickness of the slab behind existing underground gate post. There will be some noise during the work and the ramp will remain open to traffic.

At the meeting of the City of London Planning Applications Sub-Committee on Tuesday 13 February 2024, Members resolved to grant permission for the planning application for the construction of an operational base for the City of London Police in the car parks at Middlesex Street Estate. The planning consent is subject to the signing of a Section 106 Agreement and compliance with planning conditions.
