Further to our previous letters on 3 August and 29 August, we are writing to update you on the progress of the planning application that the City of London Corporation has submitted for the City of London Police’s Eastern Base at Middlesex Street Estate.

As a result of feedback at the Community Steering Group meetings and other consultation and workshop events, many changes have been made to the scheme which will benefit residents for years to come. We hope that you have been involved in the consultation process and visited the public consultation meeting in May to view the final plans. The main improvements to the estate as part of this application include:

  • Refurbished and redesigned podium garden, with community meeting room, new covered spaces, improved seating, planting and play equipment.

  • Improvement to the car parks, including a proposed car park manager and new barriers and entry systems. The car parks will be refurbished with better lighting and road markings. This includes the retention of all current parking permits and additional visitor spaces.

  • Improved and expanded cycle storage and security, accessible via dedicated cycle lifts.

  • A residents’ gym in Unit 20 of Gravel Lane, accessible from the podium and Gravel Lane access points. This is for exclusive use of residents. Unit 20 may also contain new storage units for residents, and potential for a small meeting room.

  • Improvements to landscaping and the facades on Gravel Lane and Artizan Street, with building materials discussed and agreed in conjunction with residents.
